These are some of the famous slogans of one of the biggest state in America. The current US president also hail from that same state. It looks somewhat similar to India map. Did you guess it yet? I hope so. Its the Cowboy famous Texas.


Texas has played an important role in American history and continue to contribute in large extent in this era too. It has number of famous monuments which represents his past historic contribution like The Alamo, San Jacinto, The State Capitol and so on. Its impossible to tell everything in this blog and also I don't want to bore you in talking about it. I just want to share some thing which I found interesting in Texas expecially about historic Rodeo sport.

We all know America means high sky raise buildings, NASA Space centers, monumental bridges, luxury life and much more. There is also other side with farm lands & Ranches which has past heritage like any other country. I just happen to witness it and got to know a small pie of this long history.

As soon we talk about Cowboys, immediately a movie comes to our mind. "Good, Bad & Ugly". That movie took us to the Wild West and shows little about cowboys and their life. In the 18th, farming was an important household industry in America. Ranchers & Farmers go all around to get a good cows and horses with the help of cowboys.

These American "Cowboys" would often hold informal competitions among themselves and the various different outfits to see which group had the best riders, ropers and all-around best drovers. It would be from these competitions that modern rodeo would eventually be born.

At the same time, other cowboys were supplementing their income at their usual informal competitions, which were now being held in front of paying spectators. Small towns across the frontier would hold annual stock horse shows, known as 'rodeos', or ‘gatherings’. Cowboys would often travel to these gatherings and put on what would be known then as ‘Cowboy Competitions’.

Of these two types of shows only the cowboy competitions would survive. The joining of competition with the gatherings would be the spark for what we now see as RODEO, originally two different aspects of western life joined to become a unique sport.

In Houston(4th largest city in USA and biggest in Texas), LiveStock Show and RODEO takes place every year during this time. Its the 75th year of this famous RODEO show. They start with a big Cook off and runs for month or so. In the show, you can see all the different type of farm animals and their pride owners. The main event is to bring out the excellence of cowboys who risk their lives to ride on the bull. Like our famous Jellikattu in Tamilnadu, this is also one of the dangerous sport.

For fun, there is also competition for big chicken, Goat Milk strawing and so forth. Below are some of the pictues which I happen to collect for you eyes..
